Babywearing a newborn ~ 4 things I miss about it

My “baby” just turned 13 months. 1 year ago I was happy snuggling him in my sleepy wrap every day, most of the day. Now, I wear him on my back, mostly, because he is much bigger and heavier and it’s easier to have my hair pulled than to be slapped in the face. True story.  1 year ago I only wore him in the sleepy wrap. Now I wear him in the Boba carrier, bb slen woven wrap, zolowear ring sling and occasionally the Kozy carrier mei tai. I miss having a newborn to snuggle in a carrier, but not enough to actually have another, I don’t think…. Here are 5 things I miss the most about babywearing a newborn.

1. Sleepy baby time.

Newborns sleep a lot, but they also, many times, will only do that sleeping while being held. I loved to simply hold my baby and sit on the couch, but I also loved being able to slide him into the sleepy wrap and do a few things as well. Even if it was only unloading the dishwasher and posting too many pictures on Facebook. I felt like I was being productive.

2. Smallness

Babies are so tiny! My guy now weighs more than 22 pounds and his head is bumping my chin when I wear him in a front carry. I miss his smallness curled up in the sleepy wrap, so sweet and soft and tiny. Awwwwww…

3.Snuggles

My guy is at that independent new walker stage where he does not want snuggles, no way!  I miss having a small baby in the carrier and you can just feel them snuggling into you like it’s the best place in the world…. because it is!

4. Simplicity

Until my baby was about 3.5 months I pretty much only wore him in the sleepy wrap. Then *gasp* he got bigger and started to sag in the stretchy wrap, so I had to start trying him in another carrier. I miss just tying on the sleepy wrap and some days leaving it on all day as I move him in and

out of the carrier. It was so easy to pop him in and go.

There are, of course some things I don’t miss about newborn wearing. I never could successfully nurse while wearing.  And as much as I did love wearing him there were times when I just wanted to have my own space for just a little while, but nearly every time I put my precious little bundle of joy down, he would cry, so back into the wrap he would go.

Are you in the newborn phase of wearing? What do you carry your sweet small one in? What is your favorite part of wearing your newborn?  If you are past the newborn phase….what do you miss about it and what did you carry your baby in then and what do you use now?

I’m expecting a baby any day now, and I’m so excited about putting her in a wrap and snuggling her in. :) A friend of mine just had a baby and she uses her wrap all the time. I’m so jealous! It’s such a perfect way to carry your baby with you!
